THE FOUNDER AND CONDUCTOR - PROF. DRAGAN PETROVIĆ

 

Dragan Petrovic, born in 1965 in Belgrade, started learning the guitar at the age of 11. During his education he received numerous awards as a soloist. He is one of the founders of the ensemble for early medieval music “Skomrasi”, in which he plays the medieval lute, Arabian lute, renaissance lute........... With the “Skomrasi” ensemble he made permanent radio recordings in 1989.

He has been teaching since 1987 in the following schools: “Vladimir Djordjevic”, “Bozidar Trudic” (Smederevska Palanka), “Josip Slavenski”, “Vatroslav Lisinski”. With his students, he has recieved over a hundred awards on competitions for solo artists, chamber music and orchestras.

He was the founder of the first guitar orchestra in this region (Music school “Bozidar Trudic”, Smederevska Palanka) in 1994.

Since 1995, with orchestras in other music schools, he has received several special, first and second prizes as well as competition laureates.
As the conductor of the guitar orchestra of Music School “Vatroslav Lisinski”, he took part in the promotion of the Guitar Art Festival in “Ellington’s” club (2005). He creates a unique sound with his original arrangements for the guitar orchestra.

He has performed in the halls of KNU, Belgrade City Assembly, Atrium of the National Museum, Atrium of Ethnography Museum, Cultural-Educational Centre “Cukarica”, as well as numerous radio and TV shows on RTS and Studo B...

In January 2006 he made permanent recordings for Radio Belgrade, together with a multimedial DVD of his performances since 2001. He has participated in many master class seminars for teaching, chamber music and orchestra (Michele Libraro, Motola-Italy).

There are 20 students in his class. “International Association of Music Lovers” has appointed him as the manager for the guitar section. Within the Association, he has registered an orchestra called “Junior Guitar Orchestra”, and he is its art director, arranger and conductor.
